About Innovation Horizons

Innovation Horizons is a health consulting organization focused on supporting the integration of highly innovative health technology and services into viable, sustainable business practices that support value-based health and health care practices.

Services available include:

  • Technical assistance with product and service development;
  • Health care marketplace development;
  • Advising on regulatory and reimbursement issues; and
  • Helping catalyze valued entrepreneurial partnerships and collaborations.

 

Deliverables may include technical writing, e.g. reports, journals, oral presentations, and assisting with business plan development. Additionally, Innovation Horizons can also provide assistance with designing effective communication materials for a variety of purposes including business presentations, public media, and proposals.

About Greg

Gregory Downing, D.O., Ph.D. is the Founder of Innovation Horizons, LLC, a consulting practice with an emphasis on innovation and technology adaptation in health care.

 

Previously, he was the Founding Executive Director for Innovation in the Immediate Office of the Secretary at the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In this position, his primary responsibilities were focused on the promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship as valued attributes of workforce engagement across HHS.

 

Prior to his arrival at HHS in 2006, Dr. Downing served at the National Institutes of Health since 1993 in research, policy, and program management roles. Dr. Downing earned his medical degree from Michigan State University and his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Kansas.

 

He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles in science, technology and health policy.  He is widely known for his entrepreneurial applications of data to provide innovative solutions to complex health care management issues. Dr. Downing has an active medical practice in pediatrics and maternal-newborn critical care.

Lucas M Tramontozzi, Senior Vice President, Innovation Programs

Lucas Tramontozzi is the health insights manager with over 20 years’ experience in strategic planning and execution across the public and private sectors with an emphasis on health policy, technology, and government relations.

 

Prior to consulting with Innovation Horizons, Lucas was the senior director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Initiative on Health and the Economy advocating for improved health care policies, effective health interventions, and private sector engagement. He previously served as an economic and commercial specialist with the U.S. Department of State, overseeing the policy analysis on environment, science, technology, and health issues in Uganda. Lucas has served as vice president of data strategy at SCI Solutions.  Before that, he served as the chief data officer for the Louisiana Department of Health, applying innovations to develop data-driven policies and program accountability.

 

Lucas holds an MPH from the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health.

Zarah Mayewski, Senior Vice President,
Care Solutions

Sean Peters, Lead Communication Platforms Engineer

Sean Peters, BA, Lead Communication Platforms Engineer. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Interior Architecture, Sean has seamlessly bridged the realms of spatial design and digital media. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Digital Media, his educational journey reflects a diverse skill set and a keen interest in the evolving landscapes of technology.

 

As a graphic designer with a creative mindset, Sean brings a unique perspective to the world of communication platforms. His innovative approach not only stems from his design background but is also informed by a deep understanding of the digital realm. Sean is dedicated to weaving together aesthetics and functionality, creating seamless and visually compelling experiences.

EStephens

Eileen Stephens, Senior Business Analyst

Eileen Stephens has a successful 20-year track record of solving broad, complex problems in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. She is experienced in all aspects of management and consulting, including program, project, human capital, change, and portfolio management; performance measurement and reporting; data and financial analysis; business case development; strategic planning; re-organizations and process re-engineering; formation and application of policy; and communications.  She has led various initiatives at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (for which she received the U.S. Presidential Quality Award for Innovative and Exemplary Management Practices), U.S. General Services Administration, and U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

 

She has also consulted to a variety of small and large businesses and nonprofit organizations.  She began her career in the medical device industry, serving in various product development and marketing roles with Johnson and Johnson, Boston Scientific/Abbott Medical and Medtronic in the cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, neurovascular, abdominal/thoracic and peripheral vascular focus areas.  In these various roles, she has assisted organizations in building relationships with and enhancing services for customers; drafted, delivered and facilitated customer and employee training in a variety of formats; and produced written documentation in support of large scale projects in multiple settings.

 

Eileen served as a White House Fellow under George W. Bush and holds an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Kevin Pendergrass, Content Management Assistant

Kevin Pendergrass is a Content Management Assistant for Innovation Horizons. His focus includes creating and organizing compelling content, supporting training development efforts, and curating tools and software suites used by our partners.

 

Before joining Innovation Horizons, Kevin previously served as an Aviation Maintenance Technician in the U.S. Air Force. Additionally, Kevin currently studies Mass Media at Illinois State University and serves as a student intern in production for WZND, the university’s self-operated FM station. Prior to that, he also spent several years as a student broadcast technician for the Department of Defense Education Activity in Kaiserslautern, Germany, leading and streamlining student-led productions for DoDEA-sponsored events across Europe.

Emma Villanueva, Research Analyst

Emma Villanueva is a Research Analyst at Innovation Horizons. Her role focuses on analyzing healthcare systems and the public health sector.

 

Emma has a strong background in healthcare and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management & Policy at Georgetown University. Courses such as Strategic Planning and Marketing, Healthcare Systems Economics, Health Care Organizations, and Health Care in America all add to her wide range of knowledge in the healthcare industry.

 

Prior to joining Innovation Horizons, Emma has advocated for human rights by fighting against food insecurity on Georgetown University’s campus through her participation in Students Advancing Food Equity and supported the lives of those with mental and intellectual disabilities at Bitty & Beau’s Coffee. Her past experiences have sparked her interest and passion for bettering her community and improving health outcomes for those within it.

Jackson Garcia, Administrative Assistant

Jackson Garcia, BA is an environmental advocate whose passion for public safety drew him to Innovation Horizons’ socially conscious mission to positively impact public health. He recently graduated summa cum laude from George Mason University’s Honors College with a BA in Environmental & Sustainability Studies and a minor in Nonprofit Studies, and possesses a strong and versatile research and organizational skillset. His professional experience includes an internship with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Policy, in which he contributed to public-private collaboration to meet shared environmental goals. As the Administrative Assistant for Innovation Horizons, he has coordinated communications and record-keeping within the company, and has facilitated outreach and agreements with partnering organizations.

Jamie Elliott, Chief Science Officer

Jamie Elliott is the Chief Science Officer of Innovation Horizons, LLC. His focus lies in innovative and analytic ways of solving today’s healthcare problems.

 

Before joining Innovation Horizons, Jamie was a leader in analytics, software development, and project management at the Health Resources and Services Administration. Jamie led major projects in business process improvement, and served as an innovation coach and mentor for others trying to improve government operations.

 

Jamie’s creative approaches brought him to lead data science projects dedicated to improving the health workforce in underserved and rural areas through longitudinal analysis, geospatial evaluation and data system integration.

Steven Randazzo, Communications & Growth Specialist

Steven is a seasoned growth, research and communications expert with a focus on health care and innovation.

 

In addition to his work with Innovation Horizons, Steven is currently the Assistant Director of Research Management at the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard University. Previously, he was the Director of Growth and Research at Viva + Impulse Creative Co., a digital advertising agency, where he was responsible for the growth and direction of Viva + Impulse Creative Co.

 

Prior to his work with Innovation Horizons, Steven served as the Communications Director and Cofounder of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services IDEA Lab where he worked with startups and internal government teams to change the way government and health care solved some of the nation’s biggest problems.

 

Prior to the IDEA Lab, Steven worked at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, as a Senior Advisor to the Administrator after serving in Governor Bill Richardson’s Administration as the Legislative Liaison for the New Mexico Human Services Department.
